I Turned Off All My Electronics For An Hour And Loved It

Kenny Chesney makes a really good point about all the “Noise”. The attention span of Americans is shortening practically by the day. With all the screens that are constantly buzzing, how long can you go without checking your phone, email or social media? I’ll be the first to admit it, I feel lost without my phone. My phone got stuck in the couch last night, I couldn’t get to it and I was freaking out. Literally my whole life is on my phone, contact information for everyone I know, to do lists, grocery lists, everything. Long story short we cut a hole in the bottom of the couch and my phone was safely returned to me.

I started to think is my phone giving me anxiety? So I took an hour and unplugged everything. I laid in my bed for an hour with no technology. I turned off my phone, my computer, my TV, and my kindle and tried to think about nothing. At first it made me more anxious, all I could think about were the hundred things on my to do list and how this was a waste of my time. But after about 20 minutes I actually started to relax. I wasn’t able to completely clear my mind but I started thinking about ways I can improve my life and my work. When my hour was up I may have gone directly to my phone and checked my messages but for the rest of the day I felt a renewed energy. I wouldn’t do it everyday but I definitely learned that I don’t need my phone.
