Calling all hairdressers! Wanna get away? Well Normal Wells, Canada needs you! The isolated town of about 800 hasn’t had a permanent hairdresser in years. Nicky Richards, the economic development officer stated, “We have a couple of shaggy people around here for sure.I cut my boss’s hair all the time. We had a friend that lived out in the bush that every time he’d come in I’d cut his hair. I cut my husband’s hair. “But I mean, it’s just with the clippers, I’m not a hairdresser, so everybody’s got the same kind of buzzed haircut!” And the residents who haven’t taken to cutting their own or each others hair are going to extremes to get a new ‘do’. Some women drive 17 hours or take 4 hour flights to Edmonton to get their hair styled.

Of course living in Normal Wells isn’t for everyone. It’s an isolated Northwest Territory town near the Arctic Circle. The winter temperatures average 40 below zero. But it you are someone looking for a change or to get away from it all, it sounds like the town has a spot that a hairdresser could walk right into, at the Yamouri Inn, complete with a chair, mirror and sink. And it sounds like clients would be lining up to see you! Bring your boots.
