When I first heard Thomas Rhett’s Marry Me, it was striking. It’s well written! It seems like a sweet song about the guy marrying the love of his life until you get to the end of the first chorus… PLOT TWIST! Instead it’s about a guy who is watching the love of his life get married to another guy, and wondering if his life would be different if only he had spoken up about his feelings for her. It was based on real feelings! Thomas’s #RelationshipGoals marriage to Lauren hasn’t always been picture perfect! They knew each other from childhood, but at one point, they were both with other people in very serious relationships… headed for marriage. He didn’t want to lose the love of his life, and we all know it worked out, but it makes me so sad to even think about!
I listen to this song and wonder how Lauren felt during this time in their life. Who knows. But Elle Mears has an idea. She rewrote the song from the girl’s perspective, and it gives ME goosebumps! What do you think?
