The Peoria Rivermen are having a great season. They’ve got a a first place record in the SPHL and guaranteed home playoff games for the first round of the playoffs. However, there’s only one problem. The home games will now be played at the Owens Center here in Peoria.
Because of scheduling conflicts including a Monster Jam show and religious events scheduled with the Peoria Civic Center, The Rivermen are now forced to play their first two home playoff games at their practice facility the Owens Center.
“The Civic Center was, had some scheduling conflicts and other events scheduled when we would have potential playoff games,” said Rivermen Spokesman, Brad Kupiec
“We’re stuck with a choice between playing our home playoff games at the Owens Center or playing them all on the road,” Kupiec said.
They were offered alternative places like Bloomington and Rockford but instead chose to play on their home practice ice instead. The Owens Center only seats 1000 people so the atmosphere for the games should be crazy! READ THE FULL STORY
