News Anchor's Inspiring Response to Viewer Calling Her Fat

Why do I always find videos on YouTube that make me cry? WKBT anchor Jennifer Livingston took a moment during a recent newscast to directly address an email she received from a viewer who believed she was not setting a good example for today's youth because of her weight. I have a feeling the man who wrote the email was only trying to inspire Jennifer to begin a healthy lifestyle, but the way he approached it and the words he used in the e-mail were mean and humiliating. As a member of the media who is overweight, I can't help but take Jennifer's side here because I do not believe that a person's appearance has anything to do with the type of person they are, or if they are a good role model to others. Everyone has struggles in their lives, but many people are able to keep their problems private. Those struggling with their weight have to wear it publicly, and it is a HARD battle every single day.I've had people say very judgemental things to me, and when I called them on it, they said they were only trying to help me succeed. Instead, it did the opposite. It made me feel worse about myself than I already did. Judging others is not the right way to inspire. Focusing on the negative will get you nowhere. That's why I admire Jennifer's response. Way to go, girl. ~ Jenn
