John Malone

about me

BIO: I will soon arrive at my 20 year anniversary in radio. Hard to believe! I have spent about 16 of those years in the Peoria area, doing just about everything including country, oldies, talk radio, management, and even sales. When I am not at 97.3 River Country on Saturdays or filling in for your favorite full-time River Country staffers, I am working at my "day job" as an Assistant Professor of broadcasting and communications at Lincoln College in Lincoln.

FAVORITE COUNTRY MUSIC: I like all of it, but especially, the classic stuff like Alabama, Charlie Rich, Glen Campbell, Tom T. Hall, and so on.

HOBBIES: Working outdoors, home improvement, watching sports on television, working on radio station equipment (I do most of the technical work at Lincoln College's radio station).

FAVORITE TV SHOWS: A difficult question. Anything that's offbeat or weird, shows from the 1970s, Fox News, A&E documentaries...lots of stuff.

FAVORITE SPORTS TEAM: Chicago White Sox

FAVORITE FOOD: Beef.

RADIO MOMENTS I'LL NEVER FORGET: First time on the air back in 1987. Throwing tough questions at Hillary Clinton during her only live college radio interview in the 1992 Presidential campaign (on the college station of my alma mater, North Central College), serving as the local producer for syndicated talk show hosts Mary Matalin and G. Gordon Liddy when they did shows live from Peoria....and of course, the only time I ever got fired. But I am glad it happened, because it caused a positive career change and allowed me to get a Masters degree and begin teaching!

WORDS OF WISDOM: Everything happens for a reason. (See above about getting fired.)
